With such a sweet, graceful melody, it is no wonder that Jasmine Flower 茉莉花 is well loved by many.

Jasmine Flower is often recognised as the first Chinese song to become widely known overseas.

It was performed at prominent events such as the 2004 Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai Expo, where it received increased global appreciation. International superstars such as Celine Dion and Song Zuying have also performed variations of this song, boosting its popularity.

Originally from the Qianlong era (1735–1796) of the Qing dynasty, it’s fair sounding Chinese folk tune and simple lyrics make it effortlessly enjoyable and quick to learn.

While unclear where this folk song originated, it’s melody embodies the purity of young love. Often well received and favoured by many, Jasmine Flower is the perfect pick for opening ceremonies or starting pieces.

Beautiful jasmine flower

Beautiful jasmine flower

Sweet-smelling, beautiful, stems full of buds

Fragrant and white, everyone praises

Let me pluck you down to give to someone

Jasmine flower, jasmine flower

With Jasmine Flower as the opening piece for the East Meets West Orchestral Evening, the night will undoubtedly start off on a gloriously high note.
